Project Lidia

I've been thinking about creating a dollfie based on one of my main characters from a novel I've been working on in my spare time. In the upcoming weeks I'll be experimenting around with creating patterns for her clothing and stuff. Time to start hunting down fabric that might work for this stuff! :D I'll have more details with my next post.

Hrist at Saguaro Lake

After finishing Hrist's jacket and completing her new outfit, we went over to Saguaro lake for some photos and rest. The day turned out to be quite a nice rainy and very gusty day, with a few breaks in the weather to get some photos taken.

Hrist enjoying the nice fresh air at the Marina
Working with my UV pattern attempt seemed to work quite well, I didn't run into any unexpected snags on this project other then having a hard time sewing certain parts with curves. Hopefully with more practice I'll be able to get all that figured out and have an easier time doing so.

What a day, sure wish there were more days like this. Time off, outdoors, and fresh air, what could be better? Now to start gathering ideas for the next project! Should be some interesting stuff in the upcoming months.

Core Outfit

Phew, sure has been a while since I've had a chance to do anything lately X_X And not really any work either -_- finally had some time to take some photos of her outfit where I left off at. Can't wait for things to die down a bit so I can start designing up the patterns for her jacket. I have a few other things I'd like to experiment with before I dive into making the jacket too. Like poor-mans embroidery haha. Tempted to get one of those feet for my sewing machine to see what I can do with it :X Always something to do, so little time :(

Sketching and Viewport 2.0

Rika

Taking a slight break away from Hrist's new outfit. I had this crazy idea to work on a sketching/manga type project of Rika. If I ever get mad money for a new Dollfie I'll be making Rika as a DDS for sure. Sure seems like a long time since I've done a sketch of anything, that isn't sewing related for this year.

I've also been experimenting around with Maya's Viewport 2.0 and shaders, and have found it to be quite addictively fun. I'm planning to do something rather fun with it if I can keep focused on the modeling aspect.... :X I'll have more news on that down the road.

Shirt Work

Finishing up Hrist's new shirt and the final touches, figured I'd take a photo of her before I forget to again.
It is rather difficult to find in shops a nice red gem with gold surroundings. I wound up using the same gem I used for her Egyptian outfit. Little big.... but better then nothing. Shapeways might have been better, but I didn't want to start an epic side project for a project, recasting and all.

So far I'm really liking the UV pattern aid. I just need a more accurate dollfie model.... Only minor editing of patterns. So far... next after finishing up the dress part I still need to adjust some issues, then begin to work on the jacket patterns. Should be fun :S

Started on a new side project as well. Been a while since I've done a new 3D project... >_>;

Skirt Work

Managed to finally get some free-time  or... better yet force myself away from a series someone at the last dollmeet... got me hooked on most recently... So I spent the past 2 days working on Hrist's new skirt using UV templates for patterns, I thought something looked wonky so I altered the pattern that came out. Sadly... my alteration was wrong, so that was one muslin attempt down. Seems to be pretty accurate, as long as you have the right dimensions for the unfolding process in the model. Kind of handy for testing how much fabric will drape where and how during a run simulation.

Setting up for a double hem is always lots of fun... especially with satin, it loves to curl and do weird things when ironed.

Sewing in one of the cords

Sewing in the arcs, least favorite part of this project, especially the zig-zag shape at the base that overlaps.

Hrist helping sew in some of the arcs.

Hrist testing out the fit.
All that's left is to sew in the back golden arc and add better fastners for the fore-flap. I will need to model out some golden tassel plates, and have those printed via shapeways, estimating I'll need 20-30 of those.

A New Project Begins...

Working out some ideas, came up with a design I might use for a new sewing project for Hrist. I plan to use a vector using an idea I wanted to test out with unwraping. curious to see how accurate of a pattern I can create.

Hrist will finally have a main outfit for her if I make this project. Still need to finalize a few things on the sketches/plans as well.
